External collaborators: Dr. Luis Pizano, Mtro. Gerardo Navarro Hurtado (Intel-USA), University of Quintana Roo, UdG, UAdY, Intel, Cinvestav and Conacyt.

Summary: The research and development of algorithms for application in communications and digital signal processing focuses on the processing and efficient transmission of data and the low energy consumption of the implementations. Two relevant examples in the field of communications are research into the transmission techniques used in wired and wireless multiple-link networks called MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) systems, and research into low-energy-consumption systems that use the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol applied to the Internet of Things (IOT). To conduct this type of research, it is necessary to project the architecture, and then design and implement algorithms on which these wired and wireless communication systems can be based by means of digital signal processing.

Proof-of-concept of a point-of-care device for detecting tuberculosis in humans.
Project leader: Dr. Esteban Martínez Guerrero
ITESO collaborators: Mtro. Bernardo Cotero.

Summary: The purpose of this project (September 2015 – August 2016) is to test a POC (point-of-care) diagnosis system for detecting tuberculosis (TB) in humans. The proof-of-concept is a continuation of the device developed by the UNIMA-SAPI company. The detection of the TB bacteria is achieved through the recognition of images of the agglutination of a blood sample taken from a tuberculosis patient and placed on the device. The solution developed by the company has thus far not been able to reliably indicate the presence of the TB bacteria. The proof-of-concept to be developed in this stage of the project consists of measuring and quantifying the variation in the physicochemical properties during the reaction of the blood sample in the presence of the TB bacteria; the transductor of the physicochemical reaction and the circuit for the electronic reading are being designed.
